Starmer condemns 'senseless' Russian strikes on Kyiv - as Macron criticises 'great cruelty'
As we reported in the post just below this one, the British Council building in Kyiv was damaged during Russia's attacks on Kyiv overnight.
Referring to that damage, the UK's prime minister has now spoken out on the assault on the Ukrainian capital.
"My thoughts are with all those affected by the senseless Russian strikes on Kyiv which have damaged the British Council building," Sir Keir Starmer said.
"Putin is killing children and civilians, and sabotaging hopes of peace. This bloodshed must end."
'Terror and barbarism'
Sharing a brief statement on social media at just five minutes after Starmer, Emmanuel Macron said the attack shows Russia's "will for peace".
"Terror and barbarism. More than a dozen dead, including children. Residential areas and civilian infrastructure targeted," the French president said.
"France condemns with the utmost firmness these senseless attacks of great cruelty. Total support for the Ukrainian people, deep compassion for all bereaved families."
