Even in the $1500 range you can find decent bikes that will run for years. Its just more ideal to save at least $2k imo since there's a lot more options. A cruiser like the c50 boulevard is amazing for the price. Its a bulletproof shaft driven cruiser with ≈50hp and is easy to handle and ride. There's also stuff like the klr650 which is also bulletproof and easy to manage if you don't mind the seat height. Only sport bikes have shitty options since under $2k your pretty much relegated to beater ninja 250 & 500 hell. You can still find a handful of cheaper naked bikes like honda hornets or suzuki bandits and gs500s though, so your options aren't too limited. Just do research on any achilles heal issues that will affect longevity of the bike you want. Each bike has its own riding characteristics that lend themselves to different types of neglect
