the gooner crowd doesn't care about the objectification criticism. That's the whole point for them, and they can wave it off by saying "it's just fictional character art". But at least some of them, and many of the silent middle, do care about being laughed at. These costumes may be absurdly misogynistic but above all they are absurdly tacky and trashy. Fine for an explicitly erotic adult space, not a general public one.

It always seems to come down to this issue of time and place, and people shouting "PURITAN" (or GAY depending on gender space and maturity level) because they're emotionally still teenagers. same with waifu discourse. all blends back into this shit idea--maybe just and internet-conditioned unconscious default, at this point--of one space for everything.
