Sonic can technically do those things too, he just doesn't.

The first season had the only tv/movie depiction of a proper hardscifi space elevator. The writers understood and explained how the elevator would have to ascend all the way to geostationary orbit and that it would take hours. Now in season 3, Gaal is jumping out of windows in geostationary orbit so that she can do Sonic the Hedgehog moves in atmosphere in the next scene. Its little stuff like this that tells you how easy it is for a writing room to have a little bit of turnover and instantly turn into shit.
