Ok, anon, I've been through what you're thinking way back when I was a teen and trust me, it's only as big an issue as you make it. If you think an official diagnosis will give you closure, then go for it, but don't let it control you and your life. At the end of the day, it's just a label. It doesn't make you or anyone else more fundamentally different than before. Everyone is already fundamentally different as a person regardless of what they are or are not diagnosed with. Most ordinary people don't suffer from depression either, and apparently that's not enough to give you grief.

Like I said before, the spectrum is so wide everyone can find a place on it, what used to be personality traits, preferences, likes and dislikes are all now symptoms, if you choose to look at them that way. Autism is not a game changer as far as a diagnosis goes, unless you are so deep on the spectrum you are incapable of functioning on your own. So don't worry about it, and I know how futile that is as advice, but that's really all I can say.

Or just get one of those "undiagnosed but pretty sure" hats, they always make me chuckle. Might make for a good icebreaker.
