Might be true for full gays, but kind of the opposite for closet bi guys... guys who're just a little bit gay (like 1 or 2 on the kinsey scale) and insecure about it are drawn to sports. Partly cause it's a stereotypical way to signal their masculinity, partly cause it's a socially-accepted way to be around a bunch of fit guys lol.

Seriously... when I was in high school I joined the football team to try to prove to myself and others that I was a totally normal masculine straight guy... turns out a bunch of other closet bi dudes had the same idea, cause it was kind of an open secret among the team that like half of us were fooling around with each other in private. And there were absolutely rumors that a couple of the players were getting fucked by our coach, though I dunno if that was really true.
