Do you know why? I blame M00t. He wanted to sell up and move to silicone valley and he realised that, with the cesspit that the old /b/ used to be, nobody would want the site. He also knew if he just shut it down then the /b/tard would just flood other boards, infecting the whole website. So he hit on the idea of using light as a disinfectant, and made sure /b/ became well-known, so all the little wanabees would pour in, and the really dangerous anons would leave in disgust.
They even had "Good Morning America" visiting after consequences were never the same, and they even turned /b/ into a blue board for the day (I know, because I was there - we all thought it hilarious, not considering the outcome would be this).
