I don't particularly care for the Mass Effect games, and never played them but they were effective, and connected to audiences. People actually remember the designs and cared about the setting and characters. Simple coherent designs, and they seem to pay attention to some kind of internal logic to their fashion rather than bad steampunk convention.
That's more than can be said about modern games. And romance options are something players clearly care for (Mass Effect and BG3 show it) so not including that seems baffling since that's what gamers seem to want.
There's actual color and contrast, rather than a grey haze and brown/grey characters and random Indians. I think they're meant to be multiple ethnicities, but the art style lends itself to random indian look.
