As long as you avoid GW stores themselves no one is gonna bat an eye, and WAAC people who gets other players banned for having a plane hanging it wing a bit too slightly to the side are not worth your time.

I would use your highlight color along the egde of the wound, probably thined with medium, then use Blood for the blood god in the recess itself for the easiest effect.

Anything grander then that and you'll probably go bad when painting basic boys.
