The old witch babbled, and the young man heard the lid of the clay shaker open and close. After a little while he had to release his breath, and she told him he could open his eyes. She presented to him, the Magical Clay Jar, full of a Magic Powder, and Sealed with just enough wax and her stamp to keep the lid tight
>But be careful, for if you ever open this shaker, the magic will disappear!
The young man sat wide eyed, holding the shaker like tiny baby.
>But how does it work?
he said with a tremble in his voice, betraying his concerns of the forces of the universe at hand.
>Simply shake once at every corner of your property once a day, and twice on your tools. Do all of these, every day, or it won't work. And if the magic ever stops working, come back and we will see what other magic must be at work. But remember, if you break the seal, you'll release the magic and there's no telling what will happen!
Off he went, the clay shaker in his palms pressed to his chest. He was giddy and afraid, he was breathing too fast and his steps were quick. He had to get back and break the curse, or risk losing his family estate!
When he arrived home, he immediately walked to the nearest corner of the property, and shook the Magic Shaker. He waited. Nothing happened. No colors, no music, not even a gust of wind. Same birds and crickets. But, as he was scratching his head, he saw a neighbor, whom he greeted, and learned the bad news of the passing of a neighbor a county over.
>Fine start this is.
So he walked to the next corner, shook the shaker and waited. Nothing happened. He walked to the third and fourth. Nothing happened at either of those either.
>maybe it's a combination deal, do them all or nothing happens
Then he went to his tools, shook the Shaker, and waited while nothing happened. While he was waiting, he noticed one of his sickles had a notch.
>probably one of the lads was foul cursed by a neighbor while working and hit a stone.
He called a worker...
