Everything was planned. Aizen said this during his fight with Ichigo and it seems to be true. I hate the whole 'this was planned from the beginning" bullsit trope but it does play a heavy role it seems after watching the fewest episode TYBW. Ichigo was a late bloomer and Rukia was the key to give hi his powers. Just about everything Ichigo did to reach the height he currently is in via TYBW has been a massive kickstart. Not organic.
