This is the 2nd variation of "pipebomb". They have another with no wires. This wouldn't do anything because those timers work with gears like a windup toy. It's what a movie prop shows to make it very obvious it's an "explosive". Real world application is not an egg timer like fallout tells you. I can think of 20 better mechanisms none which I'll name.
