The US is more of a "jungle" in an open, competitive sense. There is a way bigger spectrum of opportunities for better AND worse. You can really live the life you want to live, you can go to college at any age, change careers, etc. Universities are often symbolic of this - we can change majors, you can be 28 and go to community college, take various classes, go get a degree.
Europe is the old world - old socioeconomic norms and socioeconomic classes are still embedded everywhere even if they want to admit it or not. Your life is basically determined for you right away and it's hard to reinvent yourself or create your life from scratch.
I went to uni in my late 20's in the US and completely turned my life around, changed careers, etc. That's unheard of in Europe for many reasons.
The US is the land/jungle of opportunity for a reason. It's far more open than Europe. Again, for better or worse.
