Because the whole point of Steam was to automate these processes. People pay so that they don't have to bother with keeping backups for their saves, screenshots, game settings, mod subscriptions through the workshop. People who have to manage a work, a child, a pet, don't want to spend even 1 minute micromanaging a software that a portion of its price is to maintain the software's stability. Every time I would have to format my pc, upgrade it or move away with a laptop for a few weeks, I will have 10 other things to prepare for. The last thing I'd want to add to my chores is to babysit Todd's incompetency and greed.
