Spirits and Gods? Those things don't actually exist. Like, materially, in the same way that an apple exists.
All esotericism, religion, magic, and even ideologies are merely the pre-standardized study and practice of manipulating the human psyche. In the same way astrology has led to astronomy, alchemy to chemistry, ideally in the future magic and religion will be turned into a genuine academic practice.
The first step is to understand that none of that shit is actually real, this is your base point, and the place by which you can free yourself of mental parasites that have infested you.
Second is to realize that you will literally never actually be able to see clear reality in the first place as a limit of your biology, and that we as humans can't live without believing in these paranormal things as if they were real, and that by doing so, they effectively do become real.
Anthropology has shown humans are naturally drawn to religious thinking in the absence of anything else, in the same way we naturally develop language. There is no scientific evidence to suggest a nucleus of free-will in our biological chemistry, but there is plenty of sociological studies indicating that convincing people free-will doesn't exist makes them perform worse. If enough people believe in a prophecy with enough genuine authenticity, in many circumstances this can cause it to happen. What 'never was' becomes what 'always was' and thereby becomes 'what is.'
