This game is starts off okay, but I think it's severely lacking in many regards. The characters and story in these kind of games
is usually very important because you spend so much time with them through a long meaty game. They are rather grating here, even with the voice acting turned off, and suffer from the usual Japanese tropiness and women worshiping bullshit. The two females are very grating.
There's a beautiful watercolor painting aesthetic in the towns of the game, but unfortunately the dungeons are very bland and you spend a lot of time in them. They are actually less creative and distinct than the games they primarily take inspiration from. Oldman games like Final Fantasy IV.
The variety of enemies is also just not quite there, random encounters are very tame and you'll see the same three formations over and over whenever you go anywhere. There's nothing to much like rare encounters or events or superboss encounters to mix it up enough.
Over half the game's bosses are these kinda lame asterisk battles where you fight a human job holder for their job. I also don't remember any of the famous Final Fantasy setpieces, it's pretty much all dungeon crawling.

There's also a really obnoxious endgame which is where I quit playing, but I won't spoil it.
