no it's fully playable solo, though MP is arguably a lot more fun since homesteading in game takes a lot of work and being able to dedicated different people to different tasks like farming, blacksmithing, mining or cooking makes it feel a lot more engaging than something like Minecraft, and time does matter a lot since you need to be stocked up and prepared for winter or else you'll just starve or freeze to death

also it's a great game to play with a gf since girls like to larp as housewives cooking food and sweets at home while your ass toils in the mines
