Social parasites
e.g. Bombus Bohemicous
There are bumblebee species who take over hives and capture and enslave the queen making the hive serve them instead.
Would love to see a story following a that kind of bee through the year:
> mating with a male
> hypno the guards of a hive
> overpower the queen
> keep her on leash like a pet
> lay eggs in her royal quarters
> force her to only lay workers, no queens or males
> the bumble bee and her daughters get serviced by the original queen and her daughters
> finally they become to big of a family to be sustained by the hive
> lay some males
> that gets the daughters interested in leaving to find one of their own
> the daughters have to train their hypno on the guards and hold them back because they want to attack the males who lack hypno
> the males escape to find queens of their own
> the daughters leave
> it gets colder
> the old queen and the usurper are the only ones left in the hive, her hypno powers wain
> she releases the old queen, no chance any more to keep her in check
> wants to leave her to never come back, next year's guards will surely been wiser to her hypno
> old queen turns out to be a bit of a maso and enjoyed the time.
> Invites her back for the spring, promises to produce a great hive for her to take over
