Cheating.
There is a mod that lets you reconnect via chat command. It was patched relatively early on into its life span to no longer allow rejoining if less than 2 players are alive. I assume that person either had an older version, or simply stripped the code that prevents rejoining with a low live player count. Pic related.
You can do many cheaty things in darktide if you care to mess with the code.
