It's like, I could see you point, but even just from watching the bits and pieces of the English dub I could see enough of what the anime was like to want to watch that in particular its original form to properly see what it was suppose to be, while the manga, aside form its handful of significant chapters that do neat things, is just so lacking in the characterization, detail and overall depth that you get in the anime I I feel you'd have to be specifically ignorant of what the other takes on the series offer to read only it and feel like "yeah, that's enough for me".
