Stayed in my first curtain hotel (pic related is a generic curtain hotel) and was wondering if anyone here knew more about them.
For anyone that doesn't know, they're typically love hotels where you pay by the hour. Mostly used by thais because they need somewhere to fuck because they live at home and have no privacy. You drive in and the hotel employee closes the curtain behind your car/scooter and then there's a door into your motel room.
I stayed at one because I was driving to see the sunrise at Doi Inthanon and needed somewhere to sleep for a few hours before they'd let people in. So much to the surprise of the hotel employee, it was just me, a farang.
What I'm curious about is whether people always turn up with someone, or whether the hotel can 'arrange' someone for you.
I imagine local thais know where to find a prostitute, but it would also make a lot of business sense if they were nearby to the hotel. The lady on this occasion spoke zero English and I was also too tired to even think about anything but sleeping.
As I've been driving quite a bit, I've started to work out the thai language signs for things like massage/hotel/karaoke etc. So I usually stop off to check them out for a bit of off-the-beaten-track mischief. If a hotel sign says 'บริการ 24 ชม' or even just has '24' on it, you can usually assume it's bookable by the hour.
