>fruit vs vegetable
Jesus Christ Almighty. /ck/ is that last place I expect to see this roomtemp iq shit. Almost everything you call a "vegetable" is a fruit. Fruit is the botanical term, vegetable is a culinary term.
Vegetable is basically what we call any edible plant matter that we don't classify as "fruit". Most people would agree that lettuce and peppers are "vegetables" despite the fact there is no biological or taxonomic relation.
Generally speaking, a fruit is the thing produced by the plant to bear it's seeds which is why tomatoes, peppers, apples, and (most) berries are "fruit" but, outside of a research paper, nobody but an insufferable pseud would refer to a tomato or pepper as a "fruit" in common vernacular.
Most people would probably consider potatoes "vegetables" (or a starch if you're a /fit/fag) but they are a tuber. In the same way peas and beans are not technically "vegetables" but are actually legumes.
