People want conflict because it's fun and exciting.
You can write a story where no one ever fights, there's never a clash of desires, needs, beliefs, or motivations between any of your characters. Everyone just softly gets along and defeats le evil and it's just one big happy circlejerk, and that's fine. But it's not going to be as interesting as if they weren't getting along.
