You would think Sweden has quite the line of kings to look for in terms of rotten eggs in such things.

You have a pretty narrow view on economic and monetary policy when it comes to that. Right wing economic positions almost consistently advocate for low taxation in the upper echelons and exorbitantly high individual responsibility in the lowest income brackets. It's why middle class families shrink in most of the Nordics. You have the poor and then you'll have those that exist on the fringes of the system in their mansions and palaces. Sweden, Finland, Denmark and plenty of other states with similarly developed social-democratic principles after the war years very adamantly showcased that economically left leaning policies with moderate positions did work until Eurocracy came along.
