Pretty much. As it stands, weapons are entirely useless in combat, with just a few holding value as statsticks (Wanewraith and Excresduo for skill damage, and Guixu Rachet for Lisbell combo shenanigans). If you have the mats to use on them, there's no harm in making duplicates for smelting, but there's not really a huge benefit either at this juncture; you can, however, think of it as an investment for a future update where weapons WILL be useful.
