“Alric, you can't imagine how difficult this is for all of us. This isn't just an inconvenience, but actively harming the Kingdom and there's only so much extending the previous contracts can accomplish.” Katrana said to you. “Stonemasons have gone into hiding, they benefit from this and thanks to this the civilians managed to travel to seek refuge in your lands. But trolls and gnolls are on the move and we can't be proactive without the King or his powers. Just waiting for the day they strike at us.”
Katrana seemed tired, normally such a confident and powerful noblewoman who hundred percent knows that and makes everyone else to know it too felt now so all vulnerable.
“Then what shall we do? Just go and meet with him?” You asked her.
“Tomorrow afternoon, I will have the budget papers and as much as he could say no, I think his curiosity will win this time. You will be the key in this because he hates you for harbouring the Stonemasons.” Katrana said to you. “And then…”
And then what indeed. All this seemed to hinge on King Varian actually agreeing on something. What if he just says no? Could the regency be forced on him even with him actually seeing the House of Nobles and going against the precedent? You weren't that familiar with the Stormwind lawfare and so it was Katrana that you had to rely on regarding that.
The goal to reach:
>The budget should be signed at bare minimum. A Kingdom that can't govern itself is not a Kingdom at all.
>The regency should be forced on King Varian. If he is not willing to rule, then someone else needs to do it.
>Compromise needs to be achieved, maybe House of Nobles could handle all the things Varian refuses to look at. That would be out of his mind then.
>There needs to be a coup d'état. If he is a lightless husk, then he is unfit to rule and someone else needs to rule instead of him.
>Other, write in
And how to reach it:
>Put an emphasis on the lack of security. Inactivity will lead to disaster.
>He is hurt, but his people deserve some form of continuity until his mind is in the right place.
>Alterac fell because your father was a shitty King. King Varian doesn't have to be a shitty King.
>Has Katrana and the House of Nobles worked against him? No, they want the best for him and his family.
>VanCleef will get his revenge if absolutely nothing is done, they are gleefully looking at him being all weak.
>You will duel the Warrior-King if everything else fails.
>Other, write in.
QM: Background and direction. The actual talks with him are what matters, but this sets the tone. And the tone with Katrana is very polite and very professional.
