Dogs are great but like most things on this gay earth their ownership has become commodified and these animals are bought and sold like the iPhone. A dog in a proper home in the right environment is a majestic creature. A dog in an apartment is a pitiful thing. "Companionship" is not the purpose of the animal. Your dog needs a job. What arises out of that functional relationship is a bond of loyalty and trust. It's a miracle of the animal kingdom that we share this alliance with dogs.

But you need to earn it. A dog is not a thing that should be purchased and hung up in your McMansion like furniture. It should be living according to its nature, outdoors 90% of the time, exploring, and chasing varmints.
