The two delegations clearly intended to work towards a backroom deal on the terms of Ukraine's inevitable surrender. How that went exactly, we don't know - their press conference statements were unsurprisingly vague. But they were also extremely optimistic. This thing literally couldn't have gone better from a realistic spectator's perspective.
