The age thing is incidental. It's not really the problem.
If I say there is money under one of these rocks, and you keep turning over rocks looking for it, eventually you will realize there are only 5 rocks left to try and the chance is good that I am a liar.
That will decrease motivation significantly. But only if the only thing you care about is money.
"Motivation" is not a real thing. The natural state of the body is to do absolutely nothing.
I used to think that Humans natural state was to strive for better, towards the good of a bright heroic future!
But then I realized this was actually an illusion my brain was playing for me, so that I would keep doing nothing.
When you let you're feelings decide what you are motivated towards, they will say ice cream, porn, or nothing.
The options are: operate "outside" of motivation (Apathy), or use "mind" to direct motivation (Focus).
Either way the sudden loss of motivation is most likely caused by a dopamine baseline drop.
Dopamine is not just the "feels good" chemical, it's the main fuel for complex movement.
If you Doom scroll all day you want feel motivated to do anything. Try 2 days of no screens, only eat bland oatmeal. Suddenly you will feel like running all day.
