I used to think the "Kris was abused before he was adopted and buried the trauma" theory was stupid but lately I find it compelling. If he was abused in occult rituals it would explain his fascination with the occult.

I think the black fingernails and red contact lenses are moreso because he's self-conscious of being human and wants to look more like a monster. The Dreemurrs have red eyes and claws, so this is an easy way to look more like them and less like an outsider.
