2? Do something that fits roughly into the most basic "class fantasy" and you'll be fine. Titan Warrior using fire/area scaling, Deadeye Ranger using Lightning Arrow (extremely meta right now), Blood Mage/Lich Witch using Chaos spells, Invoker Monk using Ice/Lightning hybrid damage, Stormweaver Sorceress using Lightning spells. There's plenty of room for experimentation but for your first character you're just trying to comfortably get to acts and learn the game. 2 has a very nice feature where you can hold alt and hover over most keywords to see a very detailed rundown of what they do exception: "more/less" are flat addition/subtraction which means they're much more impactful than "increased/decreased" and if you just do that and ask questions when you're confused you'll be fine.
