I think you are underestimating the importance of this argument. BL3 had such SHIT writing and story it literally made people mute the dialogue and turn off subtitles to finish the game. It was so bad it actually dragged everyhing else down. It was like playing a half-decent shooter while being called a retard every 5 seconds and laughing at you while scratching fingernails on a blackboard.
