Airsoft guns are indistinguishable from the genuine article unless you are close enough to read the stamping on the side.
Especially if the owner takes pains to cover up or remove that orange thing on the end.

Couple cops shot some yoof maybe a year or two back - yoof had an airsoft pistol. Cops didn't know it was an Airsoft.
They were absolved of any wrongdoing precisely because of this.
