I’ve been thinking about this recently, is this the last generation of players who will be considered hometown heroes and only play for one team their entire career? We’ve already seen a good bit of the newer stars (Soto, Tucker, Ohtani, Bregman, Devers, tons of pitchers, etc) move around or get moved. Instead of treating new talented players on bad teams like pieces to build around, said teams will ship them off for more prospects to aim for a “golden generation” who all get called up together and make a bad team into an “on the rise” team. And once they consider their time done, they ship those same home grown talents off so they can get a return. Is the age of having a star player be on a single squad for their entire career and thus become synonymous with said team/city done with?
