AC6 did very well.
And indy games have a lot of mechs.
The problem is what you would call a "mech game"?
Is it just a F¨PS/TPS or RPG where your humanoid character look like a robot?
Is it a vehicular game where you can get out of the mecha?
Is it a vehicular simulation with above average physics and inertia?
Is it just a game where you have mecha as the main element?
A lot of those already exist, we have plenty of mecha as enemies, allies, units, skins.
The one thing that would start a golden age, would be a gameplay that feel only logic with "mecha" and mesmerizing enough for normies.
