You're better off just using a real access point than a pcie network card. If you don't want to deal with random specific firmware or systems, just get one you can flash with openwrt. Something like the EAP 620, or if you want to go big, grab an EAP 660hd. That'll be colossal overkill for 99% of people, and you can get them for pretty cheap. There's actually one right now that's already flashed with openwrt for 55 bucks on ebay (although it might have a hardware issue based off the description). The tp-link omada stuff is actually somewhat reasonable to directly directly configure without flashing the firmware or setting up the software control system, so you don't have to use openwrt with it.

Note that 4x4 MIMO wifi won't perform as fast as it says it will for 99% of devices. Most stuff like phones will only support 2x2, so the 620 and the 660 will be the "same" because the AP will just communicate with whatever the device can understand. The 660 will be able to use beamforming to direct signals and give you slightly better range, especially if you're going through multiple walls. Up to you if that's worth a bit of a price premium. Regardless of what you go with here (doesn't even have to be the tp-link stuff, I just recommended them because they're widely available and cheap), a real wifi AP will blow the absolute pants off some random all in wonder router/switch/AP unit. Much better stability, better range, better speeds, etc, and they'll last for years and years without melting down.
