>hero pass bombs, game loses a massive chunk of players
>jagex goes into panic mode because hero pass was their "brilliant idea" to immediately increase revenue and player count in the short term
>jagex was trying to increase these things in the short term since jagex was listed for sale and they needed the numbers increased long enough to sell, lasting consequences be damned
>hero pass had the adverse effect because any retard could have seen that coming
>unfortunately, jagex is far beyond retarded
>in their panic mode, jagex only focuses on releasing a fuckton of temporary events laced with FOMO to try to bait as many players into returning and spending money on the game as possible
>again, only looking for immediate returns to boost the numbers so they could sell jagex
>lasting consequences of the game be damned
>this continues for a long time, dealing more and more damage to the game
>jagex finally sells to CDC
>the damage to the game has been immense due to all the time spent doing nothing but temporary events laced with FOMO
>player count is at an all time low, hardly any new permanent content has been added to the game
>jagex now has to figure out how to do undo the damage they did to the game during this time
>spend a fuckton more time simply trying to undo the damage they did rather than adding new content
>any new content that does get added only serves as an attempt to undo the damage they've done
and that's where we are in the timeline. they're still working on trying to fix the damage done to the game (and of course a lot of their "efforts" are because of pressure being applied by the british government lol, not even because jagex is smart enough to tackle the big issues plaguing the game), but they have come a long way since the shitstorm that was hero pass. we'll see if this keeps up, but it's always smart to bet against jagex because they're ran by some of the most genuinely stupid fucks you'll ever meet.
