The Arabic press claims that at the upcoming Alaska meeting, Putin and Trump will discuss southern Lebanon, including a U.S. proposal to replace the UN contingent with Russian peacekeepers.

The idea reportedly came from Trump. If true, it’s a calculated move: stability would let Washington claim credit as a “peacemaker,” while any failure could be blamed on Moscow.

With Syria still unstable and no strong Russian foothold near the Lebanon-Israel conflict zone, the plan looks less like diplomacy and more like using Russian troops to serve U.S. interests, at high risk and low reward.
