>women were never supposed to make career like they do today.
The flip-side of this (and I know you won’t care) is women having zero agency in their own life. Your standard of living is determined by the husband you choose, and, in many cases, you don’t actually choose your husband.

Your husband decides to commit a crime and loses his job and goes to prison? Guess you’re just gonna starve to death, because you have no income of your own.

I knew a guy in the military who decided to r*pe his co-worker. He was arrested shortly after. He had to call his wife and let her know that
>He cheated on her
>The cheating was actually r*pe
>He was arrested
>He was going to prison
>He was going to lose his job (obviously)
>She now had no money
Oh, and they had two sons.

Now imagine this same scenario playing out in an arranged marriage, and your life is ruined by the actions of a man you never wanted to marry in the first place. Now imagine your husband is put to death for his crimes, and now you’re an unwanted, non-virgin, widowed single mother in a time and place when such women are detested. Welcome to the fate of women for most of human history. Better hope your random husband is a good person (low odds).
