Nobody just says, "read sci-fi" or you'll be at the library skimming through fucking nickel-bin garbage paperbacks wondering why anyone would ever read this genre. They give you a good series or an author to look up.
The majority of video games to ever exist are horrible. From the Commodore 64 up through the Wii, the ratio of shit games to good games is somewhere around 20:1. Probably even higher for the Atari 2600/7800 and NES. Standards were low and profits were high in the early days. If you could get a game on store shelves back then it would sell regardless of quality.
