Use references for the scene and lighting so you can simplify the values. You are over-modeling and muddying the colors and values because of what you think it would look like, not what it would look like in reality.
When every element in the scene has values that go from 0-0.7, the image will look flat.
You can also look into color temperature and color harmony.
I get that you want to be able to render straight from imagination, but probably none of the artist that you are inspired of does that.
