This "hobby" (unless you're making your own fragrances it's just consooming and those who think otherwise are deluded midwit snobs, but this is a subject for another time) is inherently inefficient and unfulfilling unless you're an influencer who gets free bottles or rich enough that you can afford spending AT LEAST a few thousand every couple months on new bottles.
I'm not satisfied with saving up like a good goy to get something that I'll inevitably get bored of in a few months just for the cycle to repeat again. The "signature fragrance" meme is just that, a meme, because once you've smelled enough fragrances you can't really settle for a single one, at the very least you want to keep discovering more of them.
The cycle is unending. You get something good, then you get your nose on something similar but more interesting (it's probably just the novelty factor) and go "oh, I might branch out and get this next", or you discover a new scent profile you really like, or a flanker you like better than the OG you own, or a niche brand that does a nice twist on some DNA you like... It simply doesn't end. And it's nothing but consumption, it's empty, it doesn't actually bring you anything else than temporary satisfaction upon experiencing some nice smell.
Now there isn't really a solution to this, so I'm thinking of simply picking a few fragrances I really like (a winter one, a summer one, maybe a couple versatile daily scents) and never smelling anything else ever again to not fall into the rabbit hole one more time.
