let me clarify this rambling nonsense with more rambling.

pic related is what i mean. this is female character design without sexual appeal. but it's necessary to deal with the fact that this is a female without sexual appeal, because that matters, because female bodies are sexualised in this society. women who are not sexy, who are not effeminate, who are rejected by society for not fitting into the role defined for them, need to REACT to that. either they are resentful and sad, because deep down they do want to be pretty and attractive (like everyone, EVEN MEN, who have their hero fantasies just like women have their princess fantasies, and feel equally the pain of being less than you wanted to be), or they are a nietzschean godbeast who has left humanity behind. the point is that it affects them. it affects brienne.

if you're going to design a character who flies in the face of the world, you need to fucking address the fact that you're doing that.

but """"woke"""" storytelling is more of an escapist fantasy for children, so female characters are made deliberately unfuckable without in reality being made unfuckable at all. the disconnect between the fantasy that is portrayed and the life that actually results from trying to live it out is no doubt a contributor to the mass dissatisfaction that plagues our age.
