there's a story by Herodotus that hanno the navigator circumnavigated and map the entire coast of africa, hired about by the egyptians to do this, and this was literally 2500 years ago
the carthaginians survived for another 350 years after this
they made regular trips from indonesia all the way to spain and everywhere in between
which makes it less weird when you see things like picrel and wonder about their origins
