Because cosplay isn't just about "looking exactly like the character you're cosplaying", which is a fruitless endeavor anyways since 3D will never be able to reach the beauty of 2D. It's more about expressing your love for and passion about the character you're cosplaying. People aren't going to be needlessly mean anymore and bully a fat dude or chick for cosplaying a thin or muscular/sexy character, and as long as he does pay attention to detail in terms of the details on his/her costume and wig and props he/she may even get compliments. But "looking like the character walked out of the screen into our world" isn't the only goal of or reason for cosplay. If you look great then that's a plus, but it's not a requirement.
