> I'm like 90% sure that save the princess narratives are why we have so many lesbians now
You can't change someone's sexuality based on something they watch. If that were true, it would be a relatively simple matter to "prevent" kids from becoming gay.
It's far more likely that lesbians appear to be more prevalent largely because it's more accepted in society now than it ever was before. Whereas people were more incentivized to remain closeted in the past in fear of societal repercussions, these days people who may have gay inclinations can feel more free to explore that side of themselves. The number of lesbians hasn't really changed. The number who have discovered that about themselves and/or are public about it has.
It's sort of like autism. People think that there are more autistic people now than there were before, but it's far more likely that the higher prevalence is due to our increased ability to recognize and diagnose it. Before, a lot of people who were likely autistic were hand waved away as being "eccentric", "creative", or "odd", but there wasn't necessarily a clinical definition to accompany it. The number of autists didn't change. Society did.
