Plat metals are going to be solely dictated on the fight between diesel (that uses platinum as a catalyst for its exhaust, and palladium, thats used for gasoline engine catalyst.
Some discussion to be had on the theory that tptb pushed to diesel because palladium is being repurposed elsewhere in a much more specialized niche and can't be used for public gas motor catalyst.
