They had a Steam release of the original game a year ago that generated new activity. There are lots of fan materials and side works, some of which were authored by original devs of the game.
The thread doesn't discuss "current events" in that sense, though. The game is still relevant and a stand-out experience in the gaming medium, and it being finished doesn't change that. The Lord of the Rings was written decades ago, and people never stopped talking about that.
