My theory is that they do it so that way they can later rationalize that "looks don't matter" and "women don't care about looks". If you spent your whole life telling ugly people they are pretty, eventually you would gaslight yourself into believing that it isn't just you complimenting ugly people who don't deserve the compliments you are giving them but rather you are just such an empathetic person who cares about people regardless of their looks since you are able to spend your whole life telling feral bacon elemental that they are stunning. They convince themselves that it isn't them feeding false compliments to these gluttons but rather that they are so emotionally intelligent that they can see the good in other people even if they borderline subhuman because of the belief of how smart they are and how good they are at analyzing other people's character.

This behavior manifests as women telling men that women don't care about looks. They tell other ugly women that they are stunning and beautiful so that way they can convince themselves that they are philosopher kings when they are just watching shadows dancing on the wall.
