It's indeed a problem and it should be stopped, but it isn't the driving factor. We could take all of those homes away from corporations and we would still have a massive housing crisis. It's not the fix people think it is, and focusing on it to the exclusion of all else makes the problem worse.

So far the scientists are only claiming the Earth is rotating veeeery slightly faster than expected, and they don't know why although there are a host of possibilities like sea level changes and geological activity.
